Konya Plummer has represented Jamaica at the highest level of the game, from captaining the Reggae Girlz at their historic first FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019 to returning to the world stage in 2023 after becoming a mother.
Her career has taken her from Jamaica to collegiate football in the United States and professional clubs across North America, Europe and Türkiye. As her professional career continues to unfold, representing Jamaica remains at the center of her football story.
From St. Mary to the World Stage
The First Touch
Konya’s football journey began in Jamaica, where her talent took her from playing on the local boys high school team in St. Mary into the national women’s football program. She represented Jamaica at the U-17 and U-20 levels before earning her place with the senior Reggae Girlz.
Her development continued in the United States, first at Southeastern University in Florida and later at the University of Central Florida, where she competed at the NCAA Division I level. Those years helped prepare her to take her place on the international stage.
2015–2016 | The College Years
Konya began her U.S. collegiate career at Southeastern University in Florida before transferring to the University of Central Florida, competing at the NCAA Division I level.
2018 | Jamaica Qualifies for the World Cup
Konya was part of the Reggae Girlz team that finished third at the CONCACAF Women’s Championship, making Jamaica the first Caribbean nation to qualify for a FIFA Women’s World Cup.
2019 | Captain. History Made.
At 21, Konya captained Jamaica at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France—Jamaica’s historic first appearance on football’s biggest stage.
2020 | The NWSL
Selected 10th overall by Orlando Pride in the 2020 NWSL College Draft, Konya became the first Jamaica-born player ever drafted into the NWSL. She signed with the Pride and made her professional debut that October.
2021 | Sweden
While under contract with Orlando Pride, Konya joined Swedish club AIK on loan for the remainder of the 2021 Damallsvenskan season, expanding her professional career into Europe. She made six starts for AIK before returning to Orlando at the conclusion of the loan.
The Road Back
In 2022, Konya stepped away from professional football to become a mother. After the birth of her son, returning to the game meant rebuilding her body, her fitness and her place in international football.
Back home in St. Mary with a newborn and no access to a gym or proper training center, she trained in the Jamaican countryside with a clear goal: to earn her way back to the Reggae Girlz and put herself in contention for another World Cup.
The return was not automatic. Konya had to fight her way back to fitness and prove that she was ready to compete again at the highest level. By 2023, she had worked her way back into Jamaica’s national-team setup.
2023 | The Return. Another World Cup.
After giving birth to her son and rebuilding her fitness in St. Mary, Konya earned her way back into Jamaica’s national-team setup and was selected for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Four years after captaining Jamaica at its first Women’s World Cup, she returned to the tournament as a mother. Jamaica went on to make history again, advancing beyond the group stage for the first time.
2023–2024 | Mexico — Tigres UANL
Following the World Cup, Konya joined Tigres UANL in Mexico’s Liga MX Femenil. Her time in Mexico added another chapter to an increasingly international professional career and included a league championship with Tigres.
2024–Present | Fenerbahçe
Konya continued her professional career in Türkiye with Fenerbahçe, adding another country and football culture to a career that has taken her across North America and Europe. In May 2026, she helped Fenerbahçe make club history by winning its first Turkish Women’s Super League championship.
2025 | Solo FC
In June 2025, Konya joined Hope Solo’s Solo FC for The Soccer Tournament (TST) in Cary, North Carolina. TST’s 16-team women’s 7v7 competition brought together professional, collegiate and former international players from around the world. Solo FC advanced to the quarterfinals.
