Creating Opportunity
Konya’s vision for impact begins with creating opportunities for people to discover what may be possible for their lives.
Growing up in St. Mary and later living and playing abroad showed her how differently opportunity can look depending on where a child is born. A football field, proper equipment, transportation, educational resources and access to quality healthcare can easily be taken for granted in one place and remain out of reach in another.
Those experiences have shaped a responsibility that extends beyond football. Konya wants to use the platform she has built to help create greater access for young people in Jamaica, support mothers raising children on their own, and contribute to meaningful change in the community that raised her.
For Mothers
Becoming a mother gave Konya an even deeper understanding of the strength, responsibility and support required to raise a child. As a single mother, she also understands how quickly circumstances can change and how much difference the right support can make.
Her concern for other mothers began long before she had a child of her own. Growing up, she saw women carrying the responsibilities of their households largely on their own. Years later, an encounter with a young mother struggling to afford basic necessities for herself and her baby made the issue personal in a new way.
Konya wants to help create stronger support systems for mothers raising children on their own—not only in moments of crisis, but through opportunities that can help women and their families build more secure futures.
Investing in St. Mary
St. Mary is more than the place Konya calls home. It is where she hopes to help create lasting change.
Her vision includes expanding opportunities for children through education, while also advocating for improvements to the medical infrastructure that serves patients and healthcare workers in the parish. These are ambitious goals, and Konya sees them as part of a long-term commitment rather than a single project or moment.
Living abroad has shown her what access can make possible. It has also sharpened her awareness of what communities in Jamaica can accomplish when people have the resources and opportunities to match their potential.
Showing Up
For Konya, impact begins with presence. When she returns home, she wants young people to see more than a professional footballer. She wants them to see someone who came from where they come from, who understands their circumstances, and who believes their possibilities can extend far beyond what they can currently see.
Her visits with students are an opportunity to listen, encourage and share what her own journey has taught her. Whether the conversation is about football, education or simply believing that another future is possible, the purpose is the same: to make young people feel seen and remind them that where they begin does not have to determine where they can go.
That commitment is already taking practical form. In 2025, Konya purchased a new stove for a local primary school in St. Mary, responding to a basic need that directly supports the school community.
The Konya Plummer Community Grant –
Turning Challenges into Opportunities
Founded in 2024, the Konya Plummer Community Grant gives structure to Konya’s commitment to creating opportunity in the communities that shaped her.
Working in partnership with the American Friends of Jamaica and the Bob & Rita Marley Foundation, the grant focuses on two areas that are central to Konya’s vision for impact: education and healthcare. Its initiatives include school support, youth empowerment, scholarships and plans to strengthen primary healthcare services in rural Jamaica.
For Konya, the goal is not simply to give back, but to help create the conditions in which people can move forward — with access to resources, support and opportunities that allow their possibilities to grow.
